This Week at Grand Lake
Settling in to June, Grand Lake style...
Good Morning!
Did you happen to see how the Big Bass Bash played out this weekend? Holy Smokes!
First, one of our own, Chris Smittle (home remodeler extraordinaire) took the early lead on Saturday with a 6.39 pounder.
Then, later in the day on Saturday, a dude from Baxter Springs came sliding in with a 6.53 hog. Good fish, takes the lead.
That held up all day Sunday until the LAST 5 MINUTES OF THE TOURNAMENT!
My man from Carl Junction came flying into Southwinds Marina with a 6.65 tank to win the tournament - and the $100,000 payday!
Dayyum!!
I know Chris was in a glass house of emotions thinking he might of had a $100,000 fish for a while on Saturday, and I can only imagine what Baxter Springs guy was going through when that check was snatched out of his hands with 5 minutes to go.
Wild and whacky stuff.
Anyway, what a great tournament for Grand Lake. And that big fish won that guy $100k, but there was $200k in total payout. Awesome.
It’s a “no pros” allowed deal that gives all of us weekend anglers a chance, and, based on what my new friends from Midwest Fish Tournaments told me at the Hammerhead weigh-in station, there were something like 1,400 or 1,500 registrations for the tournament.
Big thanks to Dillon, Randy, and Lydia (L-R below) for letting me hang out and learn more about this tournament yesterday. It was good stuff!
And, here is what you need to know for the week ahead at Grand Lake:
