This Weekend at Grand Lake
Plus, Some Tips For Boat Buyers

Hey Hey - Good Morning!
Don't know if you've hit the door yet this morning or not, but YO, it's blustery out there.
I've been getting used to the 65-degree January days - silly me.
Around here, same old song - still no updated Grand Lake Living website - the old one is still cruising along just fine and getting lots of traffic and generating leads for Grand Lake businesses every darn day.
But as I said a while back, the web has changed and is changing (EVERYDAY!), so it's time for an update - and I'm super close. I promise. And that means I'll quit talking about it as well. Sweet!
Also - Hello to all the new subscribers. We had a big bump in subscribers over the last week, so welcome. I hope you like what you find here.
Alright, the boat show crowd moves to OKC this weekend, and most of the Grand Lake dealers will be on hand.
So for those of you down the turnpike, HERE is where you can find all the details on the show that runs from Friday through Sunday at the Bennett Event Center at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.
And for those of you that like it at the lake, here is what is happening this weekend at Grand Lake. And yes, it's a pretty quiet time of year... (Also, seeing lots of reports of the crappie fishing being great right now, so there is that...)

Boat Shopping? Here is a little help:
First, here is some handy information on hull shapes, as provided by the Grand Lake chapter of America's Boating Club:
Hull shape, more than any other characteristic, determines how a boat will handle - and that's kind of a big deal with the wide-ranging conditions we find on Grand Lake. There are two basic hull types, displacement, and planing. However, many boats today combine both features operating at displacement at slow speeds and planing at higher speeds. This design is often referred to as a semi-displacement hull. The shape determines stability, boat speed maneuverability, and seaworthiness. A pointed bow and a sharp keel help a boat maintain its course, whereas flat-bottomed boats with a square or less pointed bow will be affected by wind and rough water and are more suited for sheltered water.
Deep-V hulls are a popular design for their ability to plane, track well, and respond to rougher water. The deeper the “V” shape, the more power is needed to get on plane. However, one of the better designs for the recreational boat is the modified-V hull. It combines a deep-V bow and a flatter aft section. This combination allows the boats to tract well, cut through waves, have good initial stability, and need less power to plane saving fuel costs.

Second, cruisers are super popular on Grand Lake, for obvious reasons. Here is a great read on how to choose the right cruiser for you:
