This Weekend at Grand Lake
A mostly quiet January Weekend...
Good Morning!
And just like that, we are over halfway through January.
Not sure if you are paying attention or not, but the sun is definitely rising a little earlier and setting a little later.
It's not time to change those indoor plans just yet, but it's getting closer!
Speaking of getting closer - the new updated website is still doing that (getting closer).
It's amazing all the things that need to be checked and old content either kept, merged, or purged after 10 years.
No boat shows, at least that I know of, in the region this weekend, and it's a pretty quiet weekend around the lake.
But that doesn't mean there isn't stuff you should know, so here is what is up for this weekend (and into next week) at Grand Lake:
Today's Email is Sponsored By...
Have you had a chance to check out Grand Lake's newest resort? Spectacular nature and scenic beauty are what you will find at Marina Del Rey Resort near Ketchum. Take advantage of this special offer and book your stay for $250 per night, now through Feb 28th - Learn more at their website: https://marinadelreyresort.com/
Lake Level - As of 9 am, the lake level is 742.19 with little to no generation. Lake temps are mostly in the low 40s. Bundle up!
Second Chance! - Did you see what went down at Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake last week? Very cool stuff. Usually, I'm all about looking ahead in this newsletter, but this is worth a look back.
So there is an organization out of the Kansas City area called Mission Driven, whose mission is to help long-term shelter pets find forever homes. Additionally, they do what they can to support rural shelters.
Well, last week the founder, Scott Poore, made his way to Grove and Second Chance. While he was here, a couple of things happened.
First, they used Mission Driven funds to buy 2 BRAND NEW computers for Second Chance. These were badly needed and a godsend to the organization.
Next, Scott used the power of his social media following to put out a call for food and supplies for the shelter - and oh lawd did his people deliver! Second Chance went from not having any extra food on their shelves to having boxes and boxes. With more coming in.
So, thanks, Scott and Mission Driven, from everyone in the Grand Lake area.
And for you Grand Lakers that want to support Scott and his mission, they have a great website with lots of unique apparel and goods for lovers of dogs and cats. Check it out!
Eggs & Issues - Friday morning at 8 there is a Grove Chamber Eggs & Issues at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Grove. I think you usually need to RSVP to these, so maybe give the Chamber a shout today if you are interested in going. There number is (918) 786-9079.
Winter Gala - The Shangri-La Winter Gala is Saturday night at the Resort Hotel and Conference Center. Cocktails, dinner, dancing, and more are on the menu - so come celebrate "A Night In The City", Shangri-La style.
Winter Concert Series - Confederate Railroad hits the stage at the Grove High School Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 6 pm at part of the Winter Concert Series. General admission tickets are on sale at the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce or at the door. Doors open at 5 pm.
Songwriters Tour? - So, I'm not exactly sure what is going on with this but here I am giving it some free run anyway, but there is a new (maybe not) 66KiXTour Concert - Tribute to Oklahoma Songwriters this Saturday night the Jan. 21st at Big Shots. Cool Breeze is playing from 8-11 pm, plus Becky Sparkman , Rubin Perez, Jack Wride and Josh - whoever Josh is. Here's the thing, though - it's a $20 cover charge for guys, and ladies are Free. I guess Big Shots is also now opening every Friday and Saturday at 5 with maybe a Happy Hour and some dance lessons, and there is a cover for that as well. I think. I don't know. Lots of inconsistent info on Facebook. Anyway, there is stuff going on at Big Shots this weekend. If anyone knows firsthand what is happening and can explain it to me like I'm 5, I'd appreciate it.
Trivia Nights - Thursday nights at Mooney's (6:30 pm) and Tuesday nights at The Anchor (7 pm ?) - it's on like Donkey Kong!
Restaurant News - After a little time away for the holidays, Buck is back in action with the best BBQ around at Bradford's BBQ in Spavinaw. Open at 11 (I think) Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until the run out of the good stuff.
Dance Lessons - There are dance lessons going down at the Grove Community Center every week - at least as far as I know. It's beginner line dancing from 9 am to 10 pm every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and intermediate lessons happening from 10 to 11 on the same days. Boot scootin'!
Speakeasy Theater - The Grove Playmakers will present two entertaining, staged Readers’ Theatre performances as matinees on Sunday January 29 and February 19 at 2:00 pm. They won’t be in a Speakeasy, but rather at The Playmakers’ theatre at 121 W. 3 rd St in Grove, OK. Seats may be reserved by leaving a message at 918 786 8950, or by emailing [email protected]. Three desserts will be available for purchase. Please include your choice when making a reservation. The choices are 1) lemon tart pie; 2) Mississippi Mud cake (nuts on the side); or 3) pineapple upside down cake with reduced sugar. These are baked by two wonderful Playmakers’ volunteers. Adult Seats are $15 each. Student seats-- from upper elementary through high school—are $8 each. Dessert is $4. Seats may be reserved with our Pay What You Can offer. Assisted hearing devices are available. The short, satiric comedies are unlike those The Playmakers’ have presented in the past. You will still find yourself chuckling in the beginning of the subtle dialogue and laughing out loud by the end.
