This Weekend at Grand Lake
Quite a bit to share with you this week...
Happy Thursday!
How you doing today? Good? (You know, you can ALWAYS reply to these emails... if you feel the need... I love to hear from you!)
Well, let's see, we've got some local things happening today for the local biz folks, and then some weekend shenanigans on hand, and then the return of the Tulsa Boat Show with VIP Night on Monday and regular hours starting next Tuesday.
Speaking of the Tulsa Boat Show (get details on the show HERE), make sure to find the great supporters of this here website and newsletter when you are there.
Supporters of Grand Lake Living who will be on hand include Grove Marine, Lake Bumz, Notable Outdoor Living, Marina Del Rey Resort, ProGuard Exterminators, Rocks & Docks Adventure Rentals, and our friends from TowBoat US Grand Lake. (Sorry if I missed someone!)
And, of course, GRDA will be on hand to answer any and all questions for you.
But there is plenty to do lakeside, as well.
And here is what you need to know for this weekend and into next week at Grand Lake:
Today's Email is Sponsored By...
Speaking of Notable Outdoor Living, who you can catch at the Tulsa Boat Show... did you know they have everything you need to transform your Grand Lake outdoor living area into the perfect lakefront retreat with the best furniture, fixtures, and fire pits to be had. It's true. Find them at the boat show, in Grove, or on the web HERE.
Lake Level - As of 9 am, the lake level is 742.25 with intermittent generation. Lake temps are mostly in the low 40s and upper 30s. And it's fitna be cold next week - so get ready!
Chambers Doing Chamber Things - Today (Thursday!) is a busy day for those of you chamber-type of folks. The South Grand Lake Chamber gets things rolling at 11:30 with their first monthly membership meeting of the year at the GRDA building in Langley. You probably need to RSVP with the Chamber on that one (might even be too late). Then, at 5 pm, the Grove Chamber is hosting an Open House at their Downtown Grove location. It's a come-and-go event, so come, enjoy, and then go. Easy peasy.
Spa Open House - Also today (again, Thursday), the Spa at Shangri-La is also hosting an Open House, this one at 4 pm. Stop by to check out all of the great things they have to offer.
Winter Concert Series - Ricochet hits the stage at the Grove High School Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 6 pm to wrap up the Winter Concert Series. General admission tickets are on sale at the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce or at the door. Doors open at 5 pm.
Songwriters Showcase - So, I talked to the guy who is putting on these shows at Big Shots and got a little more clarity on what is up. Apparently, every Friday night - at least for the foreseeable future - there will be a FREE Songwriter's Showcase at Big Shots with no cover charge. This is an opportunity for area songwriters to get on stage and share the goods. Additionally, again on Friday nights, starting at 6 pm, dance lessons will be available - including Salsa (!). The cost for these lessons is $10 per person and goes straight to the instructor. So, there you go, that's what I think I know at this point.
Laugh-In - Also, at Big Shots, this Saturday night, is a Comedy Show. It's the "Lovely Lady of Comedy - And Friends", featuring Angela Teague and several others. Reserved seats are available for $20 (call Big Shots), or you can pay at the door. Doors open at 7 and the laughs start at 8:30.
Speakeasy Theater - Sunday at 2 pm, it's Speakeasy Reader's Theater at The Playmakers’ theatre at 121 W. 3 rd St in Grove, OK. Seats may be reserved by leaving a message at 918 786 8950, or by emailing [email protected]. Three desserts will be available for purchase. Please include your choice when making a reservation. The choices are 1) lemon tart pie; 2) Mississippi Mud cake (nuts on the side); or 3) pineapple upside down cake with reduced sugar. These are baked by two wonderful Playmakers’ volunteers. Adult Seats are $15 each. Student seats-- from upper elementary through high school—are $8 each. Dessert is $4. Seats may be reserved with our Pay What You Can offer. Assisted hearing devices are available. The short, satiric comedies are unlike those The Playmakers’ have presented in the past, so come on and get some laughs!Branding W
Branding Workshop - Come to the City of Grove - City Hall, Room 4, on January 31 from 2 - 4 p.m. and take advantage of this free Business Workshop. Rebekah King from Northeast Tech will be providing all kinds of valuable information on how to brand - and even rebrand - your business. Everyone is invited! Please RSVP with the Chamber of Commerce: (918) 786-9079 or [email protected]
[I'm hopping up on my Soapbox for a minute because I can. Do you know what your brand is? It's how you (or your business) make people feel. That's it. It's not a logo or slogan or any of that stuff. It's being authentic and true and letting potential clients and customers get to know, like and trust you. Almost 2,000 people opened this same email from me last week because of the trust that has been developed over time. And, also, because sometimes I say something funny. THAT is your brand, so don't sweat over the small stuff, OK?]
Nest Buffer - The same eagle's nest that was established in 2020 below the dam is again active, so GRDA has again implemented a "Nesting Area/No Trespassing" zone near the nest. For those of you who play down on the rocks, it will be easily identified. So, stay away. Or, don't, and be prepared to pay a hefty fine. But it's still prime-time eagle viewing - just go through Langley and head down below the dam and as soon as your cross the river, take a right and wind your way down Eagle Pass and keep your eyes on the trees. It's awesome!
Calling Area Artists - There is a new custom furniture store and gallery getting ready to open in Ketchum (Cardamone Forge), and they are looking for area artists who would like to consign in their gallery. Love that! HERE is a post on Facebook telling those of you who are interested to DM them on Facebook. And, if you aren't on Facebook, well, the gallery is located across from the Post Office in Ketchum. Maybe you can, uh oh, catch them! (Get it? See what happened there!) Alright, I'll be a nice guy... the number they have listed on their FB page is (918) 937-4400. (And a reminder, people, there are a LOT of people that don't have anything to do with Facebook. Just sayin')
Poop On Them! - I saw this post this morning and had to include it. So, in honor of Valentine's Day, when you make a donation to Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake, you can ask them to write the name of your ex, your certified enemy, or anyone you want, on the bottom of a cat's litter box. And the cats will handle the rest. Outstanding! HERE is a link to the FB post about, or call Second Chance to make a donation.
