This Weekend at Grand Lake

It's the last weekend of February!

Good Morning & Happy Thursday!

You know why I like February?

Because you go from the middle of the month to the end of the month in one short week.

This means that NEXT weekend is Welcome Back Weekend, and I've seen several other Grand Lake area businesses jumping on board for the fun, so I'll have a bunch more on all of that next week.

But it's already been a pretty hectic morning and I need to hit the send button on this week's info, so here is what you need to know for this weekend at Grand Lake:

Today's Email is Sponsored By...

Battlefield at Shangri-La

Lake Level - As of 9 am, the lake level is 742.6' with little generation. The water temperatures continue to inch up toward the mid-40s.

Chamber Lunch - Coming up here pretty quickly, at 11:30 on this Thursday, is the South Grand Chamber Monthly Membership lunch. The speaker this month is Tony Cordova from ProGuard Exterminators. Act quickly and give them (the Chamber) a shout if you want to attend.

Cancer Benefit & Fish Fry! - Saturday starting at 4 at the Copper Penny in Ketchum, come on out for a benefit Fish Fry and auction with live music from Southland Ride Band and John Thomas Band. Kids are welcome until 8 pm, and then the bands will play on into the night. Great fun for a great cause for everyone. Come on!

Orange Boom - So for those of you who have been on the lake, you might have noticed the orange containment booms at the mouth of Gray's Hollow.  Those are there to help contain a fuel spill that happened in the back of the cove a few days ago. GRDA has been on it since the spill happened and has enlisted the help of an environmental cleanup and restoration company that is working to remove the fuel. GRDA appreciates your help with boat traffic staying clear of the area while the cleanup takes place. No long-term impacts are expected.

Fishing Tournaments - For all of you fishing folks, here is a list of all of the upcoming fishing tournaments, through June, as provided by GRDA. Just a heads up, that Anglers in Action for June 3 and 4th - that's the annual Big Bass Bash!

2023 Grand Lake Fishing Tournaments

Calling All Artists & Artisans -  Lendonwood Gardens is issuing its annual call for area artists and artisans to sign up for the 2023 Art in the Garden show set for Saturday, May 6, at the botanical garden in Grove. Area artists are invited to reserve booths for showing and selling their works at the annual show.  Exhibitors interested in participating in Art in the Garden may contact Stan Starts at 918-786-5300 or Lendonwood at 918-786-2938 for more information and to request a display space packet.

Eagle's Nest - The same eagle's nest that was established in 2020 below the dam is again active, so GRDA has again implemented a "Nesting Area/No Trespassing" zone near the nest. For those of you who play down on the rocks, it will be easily identified. So, stay away. Or, don't, and be prepared to pay a hefty fine. But it's still prime-time eagle viewing - just go through Langley and head down below the dam and as soon as your cross the river, take a right and wind your way down Eagle Pass and keep your eyes on the trees. It's awesome!

Boater Safety Classes - GRDA's “Kyle Williams Safe Boating Courses” will again be offered at the GRDA Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley with an emphasis on boating safe, boating smart, and boating certified this summer. All courses will be held on Saturdays, on the following dates: March 11, April 8 and 22, May 6 and 13, June 3 and 24, July 22 and August 12. All courses will be held 8AM to 5PM.
