This Weekend at Grand Lake
A busy April weekend on tap...
Good Morning!
It’s a busy weekend around Grand Lake, so feel free to jump on past my ramblings and check out all the details below.
But if you want to read my ramblings…
First, thanks to those of you who reached out to help me with what I do here.
After about a 3 hour focused work block last weekend, I realized I was just behind and a little overwhelmed, so I think I’m back on track.
So, for now and for better or worse, it’s still just little ol’ me driving this train. Or boat. A boat would be a better metaphor.
Next, not sure if anyone has noticed, but I’ve made some changes to the Business Directory on the website.
No more free lunches! Wait, how about no more free boat rides!
What I mean is that I’ve removed the “free “ business listings from the directory.
They didn’t provide any value to you, or the businesses that had the free listings, and they diverted attention away from all of the great area businesses that HAVE invested to be a part of this website, newsletter, and brand.
Now, if you’ve got a business that should be included, you want to be included, or that I’ve messed up on, let me know.
And this would be your friendly reminder that there is a whole market of potential buyers, clients, and customers that are not on Facebook. It’s true.
You can reply to this email or send me an email at [email protected]. Heck, you can even give me a call at (918) 261-8886.
And while there aren’t wholesale obvious changes, I am working on the website every day (well, most days) to make it the most valuable online resource for all things Grand Lake. Let me know what you’d like to see on there.
Alright, I’ve got more to say, but we’ll save it for another time.
Here is what you need to know for this busy April weekend at Grand Lake!
This Week’s Sponsor:
PRIME Meats, Eats & Sweets is Ketchum’s specialty grocery store with all sorts of great, house-made-with-love deliciousness. If you haven’t been, you need to stop in. They are open 10 am to 5:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday. And did you know that they will make you a killer deli sandwich, just the way you like it? It’s true. Find them on Facebook to see what’s happening each week HERE.
Lake Level - As of 8 am, the lake level is 742.69’ with intermittent generation. The lake is still murky with water temps in the mid-50s. We haven’t got much rain at the lake in a bit, but I think way up north in the Kansas watershed they got some pretty good rains last night, so that will make its way here eventually.
Civil War Era Days - This weekend at Har-Ber Village, it’s time for the annual Civil War Era Days celebration with period reenactments, demonstrations, and more. Friday is Educator Day, and then Saturday and Sunday are open to all. More details HERE.
Grand Lake Youth Art Show - Happening this Friday and Saturday at the Grove Community Center in Downtown Grove. This event is sponsored by the Brush and Palette Art Gallery and is free to the public. Friday the 21st will be the judging of the entries and public viewing from 10 am – 6 pm. Saturday will be more viewing from 10 am to 4 pm with a reception from Noon to 4. For more information come by the Gallery on 18 W 4th Street in Grove or call (918) 786-9698.
Earth Day Celebration - GRDA and the City of Grove, along with several other local and state organizations, are teaming up for an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday from 10 to 2 on the lawn at the Grove Community Center. Lots of fun and educational opportunities for the whole family. More HERE.
Fun at The Anchor - there are a couple of fun things happening at The Anchor this weekend. Saturday and Sunday it’s the Spring Open Pickleball Tournament, and the Major League WiffleBall players will be having a meet and greet on Saturday at 4:30, and I think a couple of exhibitions happening Friday at 10 pm and Saturday at 8 pm. Check out The Anchor’s FB page fore details here.
Movie on the Lawn - It’s a family-friendly movie night at the Grove City Soccer Field on Saturday night at 7:30 pm. All are welcome. It’s sponsored by the Grand Lake YMCA and there is no charge, but donations toward the Annual Campaign are gladly accepted.
You Make My Frame Shake - Continues this weekend at Grove Playmakers with performances tonight (Thursday!) at 7:30, Friday at 7:30, and Sunday at 2:00. Performances next week on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. RESERVATIONS FOR SEATS: Adults: $15 ea. Students: $8 ea. Leave a message with a name and call back number at (918)786 8950 or email [email protected] and they will contact you to confirm.
Bootleggers - The South Grand Chamber annual Bootleggers Ball and Murder Mystery Dinner is Saturday at 6 pm at Shangri-La. But you alredy knew that because it’s sold out. Consider this your friendly reminder.
Online Auction - The Friends of the Langley Library annual online benefit auction is happening now through April 28th. This Link takes you to where you need to be to see the auction and bid now. Check it out!
Fireworks - It’s never too early to talk about fireworks at Grand Lake. Duck Creek is set for Tuesday the 4th (more on the Duck Creek Fireworks & Air Show HERE) and the Grand Lake Fireworks in Disney is set for the 3rd. Haven’t heard yet on Monkey Island or Grove. Anybody got an intel on those?
Fireworks 5K - Speaking of Fireworks, the Grand Lake Fireworks folks, in conjunction with the Cherokee Nation, are hosting their annual fireworks fundraising Pensacola Dam 5k next Saturday, the 29th. Details and registration can be found HERE.
