- This Weekend at Grand Lake
Good Morning!
That sunrise picture above kind of represents the literal and figurative ‘calm before the storm’ at Grand Lake.
Literal because there is a good line of rain moving through (followed by a fantastic July weekend!), and figurative thanks to the announcement of the American Heartland Theme Park and Resort to be located East of Vinita.
The only thing known for certain at this point about the theme park is that the development will certainly change the area. For better or worse? That’s for you to decide.
I’ve seen people complaining about real estate on the lake getting more expensive, but that ship already started sailing with the lack of regulation on vacation rentals and every single lakefront home that can be a lakefront rental being marketed as ”VRBO ready”, etc.
Oh, and Covid changed the financial landscape of real estate around the lake as well. Another story for another day.
I’ve seen a lot of ‘not in my backyard’ type of reactions as well. You’re going to get that with any kind of change.
Anyway, lots of questions - we’ll see how it all plays out. Obvious infrastructure needs (they should start work on the turnpike this morning after the rain moves out), where are the workers coming from and going to live, etc.
What we do know, it seems, is that change is coming.
But that is then and this is now, so let’s get to it, shall we? Here is what you need to know for this weekend at Grand Lake:

Speaking of vacation rentals at Grand Lake, this place is an OG, having been around since 2009 when there were like 10 total on the lake. Cassanda Shores is a lakefront 2,300 sq ft, 5 bedroom home with a new 1,500 sq ft deck on 28 acres of private land with 1/2 mile of beachfront shoreline - that's right, no stairs, no steep hills, and no neighbors. Plus a boat launch and a boat dock on site. This place is a true hidden gem!
Lake Level - As of 8 am, the lake level is 744.1’, with some generation and the lake temps are comfortably into the 80s.
Splash Bash - It’s another Ketchum Cove raft-out this weekend with the first Splash Bash of the summer. (Another is coming next weekend) The Hype will be rocking the cove from 1 to 5 pm. Come on!
Har-Ber Village - The walk-through village is open again after being closed for a few weeks because of storm damage.
Battle of the Jeeps - There is a Battle of the Jeeps brewing on Saturday in Disney. Registration will be at the Cherokee Park Saturday. After you sign in you will be given a number on a piece of paper that’s taped to your jeep. After registrations, the events will kick off at 11 AM and will run back to back. The line up order goes 1 stock 2 modified 3 beyond. I’m not sure what that all means, but for you jeepers, there you go.
Benefit Concert - Grand Meridian RV and Tiny Home Resort is hosting a benefit concert on Saturday for Dawayne George of the George Brothers. Gates open at 5 pm, there is a donation dinner beginning at 5:30, and live music will start at 6 pm and rock on into the night. Plus, there are a ton of great auction items. Don’t miss this one - the weather is going to be perfect!
Nunsense II - It’s time! Get ready to laugh again at Nunsense II - The Second Coming. Yep, the Little Sisters of Hoboken are back at Playmakers in Grove with several performances coming up, beginning tonight, July 21st, and with several other performances over the next couple of weeks. A Place For The Young Adults - From the GREAT NEWS department, Bella Donna’s in Grove is going to start designating Sunday evenings as Game Night for Young Adults. It's a Safe, Fun, Carefree Atmosphere where YA's can be themselves and not worry about being chased away and it's a safe haven from drugs, crime, and bad company. Saturday Market in Langley - The Saturday Morning Market in Langley, located on the lot immediately to the north of Reasors, starts at 9 am. All of the goodies!
Grove Farmer’s Market - The Grove Farmer’s Market now has shade (!) and happens every Saturday morning from 9 am to 2 pm on the community center lawn in Downtown Grove.
